How the tap tempo
tool works.

Method: rolling average over the last 12 tap intervals · Built by Sample Vault · v1.0

A BPM tapper on one page: rolling average, steadiness readout, half and double time.

/ 01Rolling average

Every tap is timestamped to sub-millisecond precision. The BPM is 60,000 divided by the mean of your last twelve tap intervals, so one sloppy tap nudges the reading instead of wrecking it.

/ 02Steadiness readout

The ± figure is how far your taps stray from their own average interval. Under ±10 ms you're locked; above ±25 ms, keep tapping and the average will settle before you trust it.

/ 03Half / double time

A tapped tempo is octave-ambiguous: tap half notes on a 174 BPM roller and it reads 87. The ÷2 and ×2 buttons shift the reading without retapping, so you can land in the range your genre expects.

/ 04Keyboard-first

The spacebar, or almost any key, counts as a tap anywhere on the page; keys pressed inside a text field or on a button are ignored. Loads once, runs offline thereafter. No upload, no sign-up, no account.

Tap tempo is for the moment.
Sample Vault is for the library.

A sample browser that detects the key and tempo of every file you point it at, on your machine, and makes the whole collection searchable. No tapping involved: the tempo is read from the audio itself.
